Karen concentrates her practice on a broad range of civil litigation matters, with a focus on defending healthcare providers in medical malpractice and professional liability matters. She represents physicians, hospitals, healthcare systems, and other medical professionals in litigation involving complex medical, technical, and legal issues, handling matters from inception through resolution. Working closely with clients, expert witnesses, hospital administrators, and insurance carriers, Karen assesses risk, develops effective litigation strategies, and helps clients navigate challenging disputes. Prior to joining Barton Gilman, Karen practiced at a Rhode Island civil trial and appellate law firm, where she gained experience handling a broad range of litigation matters. During law school, Karen served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Magistrate Judge Patricia A. Sullivan of the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island. She also completed legal internships with Conservation Law Foundation's Strategic Litigation Program and the Aviation, Space & Admiralty Litigation Section of the Torts Branch at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she gained experience in complex civil litigation and appellate matters.
